WHOLE HOUSE RENOVATIONS
Our clients wanted their
last home to be “built with the quality
their great grandchildren could enjoy”.
They found their dream home nestled in a corner
of Ozaukee County – picturesque off the
beaten trail with a beautiful old barn. The one
glaring problem was the house! It was a sad little
house, with close quarters on the inside and few
windows to enjoy the spectacular prairie and woodland
views all around. Their options were to tear down
the house and start from scratch or totally remodel
and add to the old home. Municipal regulations
dictated their only option – they called
on Carmel Builders to transform the existing structure.
The owner’s wish
list was extensive. More space, for sure; especially
in the living room. They wanted a master bedroom
suite that was private and set apart from the
other bedrooms with a lavish bath and large walk
in closet. Additional space to accommodate all
of their young adult children coming and going
was also a must. A two story addition with full
basement would accommodate all these requests.
Dark shadows, unfinished concrete, exposed mechanical equipment and outdated paneling made the lower level gloomy with an almost sinister feeling. Entirely redesigned, the new lower level features a full kitchen and recreation area with dramatic etched concrete flooring carried over to the patio area beneath the grand deck. Patio doors on the NW corner of the lower level were removed and replaced with a window in the newly constructed bedroom; one of several areas we used the carefully saved exterior brick. A new hallway between the new bedroom and new mechanical room leads to a lakeside entryway. Upper and lower levels of the home feature custom birch and oak cabinetry, especially impressive around the fireplaces.
Our clients wanted their
home to have a welcoming, warm, farmhouse ambiance,
yet with a spacious, open feel; especially in
the main entryway. They wanted a profusion of
light and scores of windows to enjoy the purity
of their natural surroundings. A farmhouse kitchen
with modern appliances and amenities was a must
and, as social folks, they wanted a spot in the
kitchen where they could visit with friends while
cooking. A small, dark dining room would be converted
to a spacious, bright dinette with French doors
leading to the deck stretching across the south
end of the home. Finally, they wanted a sweeping
front porch to greet visitors, family and friends.
All our client’s
wishes were realized beyond their expectation
with our design and workmanship transforming this
sad little house into a “country farmhouse
dream come true”!.
