The owners of this country
home were tired of their dated and cramped kitchen.
Looking for a more functional kitchen with greater
cabinet and counter space, and an open feel for
entertaining and hosting family events, they were
ready for a complete remodel. The home’s
layout made expanding the kitchen into surrounding
areas unfeasible, so we had to accomplish these
goals within the existing floor space.
Our design provided everything
the homeowners were looking for. A far more functional
work triangle allows space for two cooks to work
together. The raised snack bar separates the work
area from the dinette, and provides a great place
for visiting in the kitchen – something
that was impossible before. A narrow closet was
removed and replaced with a customized work station
to hold the computer, cookbooks, and catch-all
items like keys, cell phones, and mail. To provide
a more spacious feel, we expanded the doorway
into the dining room.
New hickory cabinets provide
ample storage and impart an elegant, yet country
ambience. Staggered cabinet heights and crown
molding on top open the space and give the kitchen
a much larger feel. The cabinets are perfectly
complemented by the granite countertops. Like
the hickory, the granite has a very unique pattern
– it truly is a focal point of the new kitchen.
Updated lighting includes recessed canister lights,
decorative fixtures, and under cabinet halogen
lights. Accent lighting above the cabinets and
inside their glass doors creates an easy, warm
atmosphere. Maple hardwood flooring connecting
the kitchen to the dining room emphasizes the
comfortable, country elegance the homeowners desired.
Stunning copper colored paint completes the transformation
from dark and cold into bright and open. New appliances
throughout complete the transformation; they are
beautiful and functional, with the wine cooler
adding a touch of elegance.
The homeowner wrote “every
time I go into the kitchen, my breath is taken
away!” The new kitchen is a success –
bright, convenient, charming, and functional! |
