Dear Louis, Tom, Barbara and the Carmel Builders Crew;

In the summer of 2002, we selected Carmel Builders, Inc. to remodel our kitchen, full bath and half bath. The remodeling work took place between June and August, 2002. We are extremely happy with our newly remodeled areas. We have and would refer others to them, and will not hesitate to have them perform any additional work our home may require in the future.
We were not just satisfied with the outcome of this process, but with the entire process. We heard and read horror stories about the remodeling process--contractors not showing up, billing surprises, shoddy workmanship. But we experienced what we consider the 'ideal' for others to follow. There are four key elements to this process--

o accounting (contracts, billing, legal papers),
o management (coordination of activity, scheduling, selection of subcontractors),
o workmanship (ability of workers to do job, performing work that meets or exceeds expectations, conscientious and skilled workers)
o interaction (communication with workers, communication with us, partnership in the process, respect for owner property)

WEach step of the process was explained and detailed in our contract. There were no major surprises, and any agreed upon changes were documented by Carmel and the contract revised. Bills were presented to us according to the schedule, and lien waivers were supplied in a very timely fashion. The accounting side of the process was professional and very smooth.

It was amazing to watch how Carmel Builders brought together their work crew and the crews of each subcontractor in such an organized fashion! Scheduling went smoothly. Occasional glitches were promptly addressed and steps were taken to remain on task. Plans were provided to each subcontractor and to Carmel's on-site staff. Carmel was always aware of what was currently happening and what came next. Material suppliers, subcontractors and the Carmel Builders crew worked together in a very well managed process.

It is possible for quality materials to be installed or used in such a way that they lose their initial value. The importance of skilled workmanship is essential. Carmel Builders selected subcontractors that not only knew and met the codes that govern their work, but also took pride in the quality of their work. High standards of workmanship were not limited to the subcontractors. Each of Carmel's workers who came into our home exhibited a high attention to detail and intricate knowledge of what was required to complete our project. But the knowledge of the Carmel crew went beyond the project. We were extremely impressed by the skill and the broad scope of their knowledge.

The defining factor for any project goes beyond tangibles. The experience of the customer can 'make or break' the relationship. Carmel Builders listened to our ideas and input, treated us with respect and always made us feel like we were part of the 'team.' They exhibited respect for our property by maintaining a clean environment even when that was difficult. They got along with each other, with the other workers, and with our family. They actually felt like family!

Sincerely,

Bill & Jeanette L.
